New Year’s Resolutions for Your HVAC System

With the New Year comes new goals, aspirations and, of course, resolutions! While New Year’s resolutions are notoriously breakable, we’ve come up with a few “resolutions” for your HVAC system that won’t be hard to keep. Using these resolutions as a guide to maintaining your HVAC system will help guarantee a more comfortable and energy-efficient home throughout the entire year.

Resolution #1: Remember to change your filters

Taking care to change your HVAC air filters is a quick and easy way to ensure that your system will run efficiently. Changing your filters at a minimum of every three months also helps prevent costly repairs and breakdowns. It’s a good idea to change your filters more frequently during months with more extreme high and low temperatures.

Resolution #2: Get a programmable thermostat – and use it

If you don’t already have a programmable thermostat, consider having one installed by one of our certified technicians. Thermostats automatically regulate the temperature in your home – whether you’re there or not. Not only do thermostats help conserve energy and save on monthly utility bills, they let you have full control over the temperature of your home. Columbia Heating & Cooling is offers a FREE programmable thermostat with any “all new” installation – including a furnace/AC or a furnace/heat pump.

Resolution #3: Learn and look out for warning signs

Learn more about your HVAC system by doing some research on energy.gov or by reading your unit’s owner’s manual. Knowing the ins and outs of your HVAC system will help you learn how to get the most efficient usage and help you identify signs of any problems.

Resolution #4: Schedule routine maintenance with Columbia Heating & Cooling

Maintenance is of utmost importance when it comes to your HVAC system. Just like you regularly schedule oil changes for your car, you should take care to provide the same preventative upkeep for your HVAC system. Regular maintenance performed by our certified technicians will help your system have a longer life span, run more efficiently, and prevent costly problems.
